Our Approach To Depression

Depression can manifest in many different ways, and its origins are often just as unique. In our work with depression, we take an approach grounded in curiosity, insight, and transformation. By exploring the roots and meaning of depressive symptoms, we help our clients move toward meaningful and lasting change in their lives.

Are you seeking to develop insight into the patterns of thought and/or behavior that you've acquired ver the course of your life? I specialize in working with men to understand themselves, their decisions, and the life events that contribute to forming their identities and their personalities.

Therapy For Insight Can Improve:

  • Relationships

  • Mindfullness

  • Awareness

  • Decision-making

  • Self-fulfillment

  • Meaning-making

What is insight-oriented psychotherapy?

Insight-oriented psychotherapy is a process that emphasizes self-understanding and personal discovery, allowing individuals to explore the deeper motivations, patterns, and emotional forces shaping their thoughts and behaviors. Rather than focusing on symptom relief, this approach encourages reflection on past experiences, relationships, and unconscious influences to uncover how they inform one’s current sense of self. Through this exploration, clients can gain clarity about their inner world, identify recurring patterns in their lives, and develop a more authentic understanding of their desires, values, and emotions. This deeper awareness fosters personal growth, enhances emotional intelligence, and empowers individuals to make more intentional choices in their lives. Insight-oriented psychotherapy is a journey of self-discovery, aimed at fostering a richer, more integrated sense of self.

How does insight-oriented therapy work to provide relief?

Awareness of our patterns interrupts their automaticity and opens the possibility for new, intentional ways of thinking and acting. Additionally, understanding one’s inner world helps integrate conflicting parts of the self, reducing internal tension and increasing a sense of coherence. The therapeutic relationship itself, built on trust and non-judgmental exploration, provides a safe space for clients to face vulnerabilities and make connections they may have avoided. As clients discover the origins of their struggles, they often experience a sense of empowerment and freedom, enabling them to move forward with greater authenticity and purpose.

Developing Insight

Destructive Patterns

Destructive patterns often stem from unresolved experiences or unconscious beliefs that shape how we relate to ourselves and others. Gaining insight into these underlying dynamics allows for greater self-awareness and the ability to choose healthier, more adaptive ways of living.

Addiction

Addiction often serves as a way to manage underlying emotional pain or unconscious conflicts. Developing insight into these deeper drivers can reduce the grip of compulsive behavior and open the door to more intentional, healing choices.

Childhood

Early childhood experiences profoundly shape our emotional world, sense of self, and relational patterns—often in ways we’re not fully aware of. Developing insight into how the past continues to influence the present can create space for growth, healing, and new possibilities.

Unconscious

Much of our thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behavior are shaped by influences outside our awareness. Developing insight involves bringing these hidden elements into consciousness, allowing for greater self-understanding and the possibility of meaningful change.

Dr. Yedidya Levy

For nearly a decade, I’ve practiced as a licensed psychologist, refining my expertise through thousands of clinical hours with adults across the lifespan. My training as a doctoral-level psychologist, grounded in psychodynamic therapy and integrated with CBT, allows me to meet my clients’ challenges with depth, precision, and clinical rigor. Over the years, I’ve seen that a strong therapeutic relationship can foster insight and help people make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. As the Assistant Director of the Yeshiva University Counseling Center and the owner of a private practice, I’ve worked extensively with adults from diverse backgrounds—veterans, professionals, students, fathers, entrepreneurs, and individuals navigating major life transitions. Psychotherapy, in my view, is a bespoke process: no two adults are the same, and the roadmap to meaningful change must be tailored, deliberate, and collaborative. Together, we will identify the psychological patterns contributing to your distress, understand the forces that keep them in place, and intervene in ways that promote durable, internal change. Reach out for a consultation to begin the work of living with greater clarity and freedom.
