Our Approach To Trauma
Trauma is often associated with severely distressing events that involved the threat of death or serious injury. PTSD is the collection of symptoms that emerge on the wake of a traumatic incident. There are countless experiences that can constitute trauma and many ways PTSD can manifest. Our approach is judgement-free, evidence-based, and committed to helping our clients find relief.
Have you experienced a traumatic event and want to speak about it, or are you experiencing anger, irritability, anxiety, dissociation, or feelings of disconnection from others? We help our clients understand and manage the effects of trauma, providing targeted therapy to help you process your experiences, regain a sense of stability, and move forward with confidence and connection.

What is Psychotherapy For PTSD?
In our practice, therapy for PTSD involves both CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and psychodynamic insight-oriented therapy. Insight-oriented techniques, such as psychodynamic therapy, help individuals explore the underlying emotional and relational patterns shaped by their trauma, fostering greater self-awareness and understanding of how the trauma affects their current behavior and relationships. Exposure therapy, on the other hand, focuses on gradually and safely confronting trauma-related memories, emotions, or situations to reduce avoidance and desensitize the emotional intensity of those triggers. Techniques like imaginal exposure, where clients recount the traumatic event in a safe environment, or in vivo exposure, where they engage with real-life reminders of the trauma, help reduce the fear response over time. Combining these approaches often provides both emotional insight and behavioral change, leading to significant relief from PTSD symptoms.
Is Psychotherapy An Effective Treatment For PTSD?
Yes, PTSD can be treated effectively through a combination of evidence-based approaches, including insight-oriented techniques and exposure therapy.
Signs of PTSD
Flashbacks
Vividly re-experiencing a traumatic event as if it were happening in the present. These episodes can be triggered by reminders of the trauma and often involve intense emotions, physical sensations, and dissociation.

Avoidance
Going to great lengths to steer clear of thoughts, feelings, people, or situations that remind an individual of their trauma.

Dissociation
Feeling disconnected from thoughts, feelings, memories, or sense of identity—often as a way to cope with overwhelming stress or trauma.

Self-Harm
Self-harm is a coping mechanism some individuals use to manage overwhelming emotional pain, numbness, or a sense of disconnection.

Meet The Founder

Dr. Yedidya Levy
For nearly a decade, I've worked on developing expertise and honing my craft as a clinician specialized in men's issues. Men tend to have a unique experience of the world and a complex relationship with mental health. As a licensed psychologist trained in various modalities of psychotherapy, I've repeatedly witnessed the transformative power of insight, and the therapeutic relationship, even when it feels all hope is lost. I am the assistant director of the college counseling center at Yeshiva University, and have worked extensively with adult men of all ages, and from all walks of life. I believe psychotherapy is a bespoke process, one in which the care and roadmap to change is highly individualized. Through this exploration, we'll identify the patterns contributing to your current distress. We will develop insight into the ways these patterns are maintained, and we will effectively intervene to create lasting change. Reach out for a consultation today to begin the process of living a freer and lighter existence.
